It is hard to put my heart into words for a blog post like this! Meg is one of my dearest friends and I can still remember the college days when we dreamt together of getting married, though the men God had for us had yet to walk into our lives.
I first met Meg in my sociology class at Southeastern University. We had a professor that was slightly less than captivating, and one day this feisty brunette in front of me started whispering all kinds of sarcastic remarks. I couldn’t help but get in on the fun, and we ended up giggling behind our textbooks every Tuesday and Thursday! Little did we know that it was the Lord himself that planned the crossing of our paths. One day we walked out of class together and talked for two hours straight. We were both struggling with finding our place in the SEU culture, and it just so happened that we found a kindred spirit in the other! We both came from the same denominational background, and her church in Gainesville had been a longtime support to my family on the mission field! What a small world. That conversation started a friendship that was destined for many twists and turns, sweetness and struggles, battles and victories. We walked through seasons of heartbreaks, disappointments, and joyful revival, always with the dream of marrying men-of-God in our hearts. One green and hazy summer, the Lord graciously answered Meg’s prayer…
Meg first met Sam at camp. Every summer she would pack her bags and journey to the woods of South Carolina to counsel kids and have a blast. One year, a friendly ropes instructor joined the team and that marked the beginning of Sam and Meg’s friendship! Without any thought of romance, the two quickly became like a brother and sister, keeping up with each other even after the summer had ended. A year of letter-writing and phone calls passed, and the next time they saw each other, they couldn’t deny that something had sparked between them! When Sam finally decided to ask Meg out on a date, they were both so nervous that Sam could hardly eat and Meg blushed off and on all evening! The nerves quickly turned into laughter, and their dating relationship began. The year was full of joy, adventures and getting to know each other more and more deeply. In September 2016, Sam got on one knee, revealed a gorgeous ring, and made his commitment to Meg official!!!
Everything about Meg and Sam’s wedding was beautiful. My fiancé and I had the privilege of driving up to Gainesville the night before for the rehearsal dinner, where person after person stood and shared their love for the couple! I could already tell that with a group like this, the wedding day would be unforgettable.
Saturday morning came and there were already many friends and family members making preparations and putting up decorations. The air was cool, the sun sparkled through the trees, and Meg sipped tea while being pampered by her best friends. The moment for their First Look finally arrived and you’d better believe tears were shed! Sam could not wipe the smile off of his face after seeing his bride. Soon enough, friends and family began to arrive for the 11:00 am ceremony. When the time came to walk down the aisle, Meg held onto her father’s arm and put one bare foot in front of the other. Hymns were sung, rings were exchanged, and the pastor got to fulfill his life-long dream of quoting The Princess Bride, “Mawaige, is what bwings us togethew TODAY!”
The reception was held outside, where guests ate tacos and drank punch to the background hum of The Paper Kites. Toasts were given, dances were applauded, and the cake was politely cut and just as politely rubbed onto the faces of the newly weds! 😂 As Meg and Sam began to depart, the whole party gathered around to bless and pray over the couple and their new life together.
It is always hard to remain composed while shooting my friends’ weddings. Let’s just say I could barely contain myself as I watched Meg and Sam’s love for each other GLOW all day!!! There is nothing sweeter than God’s faithfulness, and this day reminded me of the glorious future with HIM we have to look forward to. After a long time of praying and asking the Lord for husbands, He graciously gave men-of-God to BOTH me and Meg! He didn’t have to, but He did. That’s grace, and it’s pretty stinkin’ awesome. 😊
Please enjoy the visual story of Meg and Sam’s joy-filled wedding day! ♥️
