My Prayer Wall

A few years ago, my parents decided to close up a random window opening between my closet/bathroom and the other side of the house. Strange right? Why there was a window in the middle of my house is a mystery to me! But it simply HAD to be closed up. The result was a blank piece of heavy duty cardboard that covered the glass on my side of things. No big deal.

If you know even a little bit about me, you know that I like writing stuff EVERYWHERE. I can often be found with reminders written in pen on my hand, sticky notes covering my mirror, or journals filled from end to end with years of scribbles. So naturally, one day I took a marker and jotted down an inspirational quote on the blank cardboard. And so my prayer wall was born!

Over the course of a year, the cardboard began to fill up with the most meaningly quotes, verses, and poems in my life. Before I knew it, I would pause almost every day to contemplate the wall and pray over a quote here or a verse there. The result was a source of encouragement and motivation every time I stepped inside the tiny room! And since the wall was hidden in my bathroom, behind my closet, in the back of my bedroom, rare was the soul who happened upon it.

And then came moving day. Several months ago I moved into The Lodge, a house right down the street from my parents, which meant my family took over my old room (including my prayer wall). Thankfully, they kept the notes untouched and hidden away. Today I decided to officially document this wall, since in a couple months I will be moving again, and I never want to forget the beauty of that quiet “temple” where the Lord would meet me every day.

On a side note, I highly recommend creating a prayer wall! Surrounding ourselves with reminders of TRUTH and God’s PROMISES is a very tangible way to keep our mindset in the right place. And although I may be blogging my own prayer wall, I also recommend keeping this side of your life private. Not everything needs to be on Instagram, my friend! After all, your worth is found in the Father’s eyes and not in the eyes of man. My hope is that by sharing my own prayer wall, you may feel inspired to create something similar. 😊

So here is a peek of my prayer wall! Although these quotes speak to me personally, I hope they end up encouraging you as well. ❤️

“O Love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in Thee;
I give Thee back the life I owe,
That in Thine ocean depths its flow,
May richer, fuller be.

O Light that hollowest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to Thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day,
May fairer, brighter be.

O Joy that seeks me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to Thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from Thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red,
Life that shall endless be.”
