My 2018 Reading List!

Yo, Wassup 2018!

I hope you all had a great New Year, and that you got to hug, smooch, or jump around with a loved one as the clock struck midnight! 🎆 2018 has arrived in full, chilly force, which means I get to launch into some new GOALS as well as dig around for sweaters I forgot I had! (I live in Florida in case you forgot 😎) Let’s just say that I am LOVING what this new year is dealing out so far!

I’ve got several changes coming your way this year, new, and exciting things that I am almost TOO giddy to talk about out loud! (If you want more of a sneak peek into what I’m talking about then sign up for my newsletter! My subscribers always get first dibs 👊) Anyhoo, one of the elements that you will start seeing are more LIFESTYLE blogs, with a focus on leading a simple, and quiet life. Today, I’m starting off the year by giving you some serious BOOK INSPIRATION!!!

Guys guys GUYS. I am an unashamed book FANATIC. Reading more has always been a resolution for me, no matter what season of life I’m in. Nothing can move you, motivate you, and change you like a good book can! As time goes by, I find myself watching TV LESS and reading books MORE, which leaves me feeling energized and healthy from the bottom of my soul to the top of my messy bun. So for all of you out there who thirst for a deeper, richer life, here is some inspiration for your own reading adventures in 2018! I’ve selected 10 titles for business and 10 titles for pleasure.

(Side Note: If you can’t tell by now, I am a COMMITTED follower of Jesus Christ! Which means I get my living water every day from His Holy Word. If nothing else, start HERE with your reading resolutions! Please please PLEASE reach out if you want to start this discipline but can’t seem to nail it down. I’d be happy to talk. 😊)

For Business

“Business” is entirely the wrong word for this sub-list. I say that because I will probably enjoy this selection even more than the “Pleasure” line up! There is just something almost ADDICTIVE about picking up a book that inspires practical application and ACTUAL change! These books leave me feeling challenged, motivated, and basically just PUMPED about life. So for 2018, I’ve put together a list of titles that will (Lord-willing) improve my faith, discipline, and world-view in general:

    1. Confessions (A New Translation)
    2. The Imperfect Disciple: Grace for People Who Can’t Get Their Act Together
    3. 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You
    4. God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life: A Year of Daily Devotions in the Book of Proverbs
    5. True Feelings: God’s Gracious and Glorious Purpose for Our Emotions
    6. Living Life Backward: How Ecclesiastes Teaches Us to Live in Light of the End
    7. The Tech-Wise Family: Everyday Steps for Putting Technology in Its Proper Place
    8. Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World
    9. Soulful Simplicity: How Living with Less Can Lead to So Much More
    10. Will the Real You Please Stand Up: Show Up, Be Authentic, and Prosper in Social Media

For Pleasure

As I’ve gotten older and more experienced in “adulting” I’ve noticed a distinct slipping away from fictional works in most people my age. Nooooooooo! This is TRAGIC! Unless you’re my older sister (who reads books like they’re candy), then you most likely GET reading a book on business, but STRUGGLE with the thought of reading a story that has no “practical application”. Well, let me tell you friend, you are missing out on the good stuff! Of course I’ll be the first to admit that there are a lot of books out there NOT worth reading AT ALL (don’t even get me STARTED on trashy romances!). However, we are human beings, primarily creatures of PASSION and DEPTH, which means the most impactful thing we can ever read is a STORY. Here are a few titles that will hopefully give both you and me a new appreciation for beautiful literature:

    1.  The Book of the Dun Cow
    2. The Awakening of Miss Prim: A Novel
    3. Crime and Punishment: A New Translation
    4. At the Back of the North Wind
    5. Around the World in 80 Days
    6. The Secret Life of Bees
    7. Charlotte’s Web
    8. A Tale of Two Cities
    9. Pathfinder Trilogy: Pathfinder; Ruins; Visitors
    10. The Classic Treasury of Aesop’s Fables

Now I am eager to hear from YOU! Is there anything that should be added to this list? Give me your titles and I will add them to my personal line up! As the year goes by I plan on posting regular blogs about the books I’m reading. I’d love for you to join me! Sign up for my newsletter below or simply stay tuned every Wednesday for more content like this. 🙌

Love you all!
